Basically, metal plates can be easily cut, but different metal plates have different characteristics, so we also need to pay more attention to cutting. 1. Stainless steel
Cutting stainless steel requires the use of nitrogen to obtain oxidation-free and burr free edges. Coating oil film on the surface of stainless steel plate will get better perforation effect without reducing the processing quality;
2. Carbon steel
Carbon steel cutting with oxygen will get better results. When oxygen is used, the cutting edge will be slightly oxidized. For plates with a thickness of 4mm, fiber laser cutting machine can use nitrogen as processing gas for high-pressure cutting, and the cutting edge will not be oxidized. For plates with a thickness of more than 10mm, better results can be obtained by using special plates and oiling the surface of the workpiece during processing;
3. Aluminum
Despite its high reflectivity and thermal conductivity, aluminum with a thickness of less than 6mm can be cut, which depends on the alloy type and laser capacity. When cutting with oxygen, the cutting surface is rough and hard, and when cutting with nitrogen, the cutting surface is smooth. Pure aluminum is very difficult to cut because of its high purity. It can be cut only when a "reflection absorption" device is installed on the fiber laser cutting machine system, otherwise reflection will destroy the optical components
4. Copper and brass
Both materials have high reflectivity and very good thermal conductivity. Brass with a thickness of less than 1mm can be cut with nitrogen; Copper with a thickness of less than 2mm must use oxygen. Copper and brass can be cut only when a "reflection absorption" device is installed on the system, otherwise the reflection will damage the optical components.
