Pure copper and brass are highly reflective metallic materials with extremely low absorption of the seen wavelength laser, as well as good thermal conductivity, and the absorbed heat spreads rapidly around the processing area, affecting the processing quality. Therefore, laser cutting brass has been a challenge that the industry should overcome.
Laser cutting of brass
Pure copper/bronze, as a highly reflective material, basically cannot be cut with a CO2 laser beam. Fiber optic communication laser cutting copper, although the cutting effect is good, but because copper is a highly reflective material, therefore, the long-term action of laser in these materials may affect its service life, resulting in poor subsequent processing results, and also increase the use of consumables.
Copper foil laser cutting
The difficulty in cutting copper foil lies in the absence of carbonization and burrs at the cutting edge, which does not deform the copper foil and enables a roll-to-roll processing mode. Using traditional laser cutting machine, such as fiber laser cutting machine, the heat impact is high, the accuracy is lower than UV laser cutting machine, the edge carbonization is serious, and the edge heat impact will make the copper foil warp and deform. The processing mode of UV laser cutting machine is vibration mirror scanning, the bottom is vacuum adsorption, cold light source to reduce the heat impact, and can cut copper foil perfectly.
