Comparison between laser cutting machine and wire cutting machine

Since its inception, metal laser cutting machines have gradually been recognized by consumers. What are the advantages of traditional cutting methods that cannot be compared to laser cutting machines?

First, let's take a look at the characteristics of laser cutting and wire cutting:

Laser cutting:

The latest mainstream laser cutting equipment mainly includes fiber laser cutting machines and CO2 laser cutting machines.

The current CO2 laser cutting machine is mainly used for cutting thick plates, which can achieve the cutting of non-metallic materials.

Traditional wire cutting:

Wire cutting can only cut conductive materials, which limits its application range and requires cutting coolant during the cutting process. For example, leather is not suitable for use as it is not afraid of water or cutting fluid pollution and cannot be cut with wire.

In addition, according to the type of wire used, current wire cutting is divided into fast wire and slow wire. The wire is made of molybdenum wire and can be used for multiple cuts. The wires are used slowly and can only be used once.

P: Metal wire has more applications than molybdenum wire because it is very cheap.

The advantage of traditional wire cutting is that it can achieve one-time forming of slab cutting, but the cutting edge will be very rough.

After discussing the characteristics of laser cutting and traditional wire cutting, let's briefly compare their cutting principles and disadvantages:

Laser cutting principle: The high temperature generated by high-energy density laser beam irradiation melts the incision of the cutting material, thus achieving cutting. Therefore, the cut metal material should not be too thick, otherwise the Heat-affected zone may be too large to cut.

Laser cutting has a wide range of applications, as it can cut most metals without being limited by shape. The disadvantage is that it can only cut thin sheets.

Traditional wire cutting principle: Using molybdenum wire to cut metal wire, it is electrified to produce high-temperature cutting material to be cut, usually used as a mold. The Heat-affected zone is more uniform and smaller. It can achieve the cutting of thick plates, but the cutting speed is slow and can only cut conductive materials, resulting in a smaller construction surface.

The disadvantage is that there are consumables, and the processing cost is higher than the cost of laser cutting.

In summary, both have their own advantages and can basically complement each other. However, with the development of industrial demand, processing enterprises have increasingly high requirements for mass production, which means that the higher the work efficiency, the higher the speed of metal cutting. High quality, low-cost laser cutting is more suitable for modern production needs, while wire cutting is gradually losing its market competitiveness.

Since the development of laser cutting machines, the prices of laser cutting machines have been decreasing again and again due to the increase in manufacturers. Many sheet metal and metal processing industries do not choose laser cutting machines due in large part to their traditional "chicken ribs" cutting equipment. We should take the courage to give up the "chicken ribs" of clamping factory development and purchase a laser cutting machine that is actually no longer expensive, and enjoy high-speed and precise processing methods!
