Galvanized sheet is a metal material commonly used in home appliance manufacturing, filing cabinet, daily necessities and other industries. In order to ensure the precision and quality of product molding, laser cutting is the most common process method used in the blanking process of galvanized sheet. It is a processing method that does not contact materials, so it will not damage the surface of the plate, and there will be no burrs left on the cutting section. It is a processing method that can greatly reduce the next process.
As galvanized steel sheet is alloy steel sheet, it has been recognized as a relatively difficult material for laser cutting. Nowadays, the most mainstream equipment of laser cutting is optical fiber laser cutting machine, which has great advantages in cutting cost and maintenance. So, what are the better solutions for optical fiber laser cutting machine to cut galvanized sheet?

Auxiliary gas improves laser cutting performance
The addition of auxiliary gas is a more effective way to improve the laser cutting performance. In terms of gas category, there are three cutting processes for galvanized sheets, namely, air cutting, oxygen cutting and nitrogen cutting.
Air cutting: the advantage is that the processing cost is extremely low, and only the power cost of the laser itself and the air compressor need to be considered, without incurring high auxiliary gas costs. However, the cutting efficiency on the thin plate can match that of nitrogen cutting, which is an economical and efficient cutting method. However, the disadvantages on the section are also obvious. First of all, the section cut by air will produce burr on the bottom surface, and the laser processed product must also undergo secondary processing such as deburring, which is not conducive to the entire product production cycle. Secondly, the section of air cutting is easy to blacken, which affects the quality of products. Therefore, the advantages of laser processing without subsequent processing cannot be reflected. Therefore, many enterprises are reluctant to choose air cutting in the processing of galvanized steel plates.
Oxygen cutting: This is the most traditional and standard cutting method. The advantage is that the gas cost is low, and there is no need to switch the auxiliary gas frequently in the sheet metal processing dominated by carbon steel, which is convenient for factory management. But the disadvantage is that after oxygen cutting, there will be a layer of oxide skin on the surface of the cut section. If the product with oxide skin is directly welded, the oxide skin will naturally peel off after a long time. This is one of the reasons why galvanized sheet welding is easy to fail.
Nitrogen cutting: nitrogen is used for high-speed machining. As nitrogen is different from oxygen for combustion support, it plays a protective role, so the cutting section will not produce oxide skin. Many enterprises are interested in this advantage, so nitrogen is often used for cutting galvanized steel plates.
